Once you have recorded your vocal, open it in Edison. You don't want any sudden noises or things like trucks roaring past in the sample. Make sure you manage to capture a fairly even silence to use as a noise profile. You don't have to do the recording in Edison though, this is for after you have made the recording. This will be used as a noise floor, or noise profile by the noise reduction tool in edison. By that I mean a few seconds of the ambient environment noise the mic picks up. When you are recording, be sure to record a few seconds of silence as well. Though it depends on the type of noise and how much noise you need to reduce. That will most likely give you better results than trying to filter out the noise with EQ. I have done a lot of recording with cheap mics in the past, so I'll tell you what I did to remove environment noise.Įdison has a noise reduction tool that is very good for removing such noise. Whereas recording without any filtering etc gives you the chance to change your mind about how you process the sound. If you record with various eqs and filters, you will be limited as to what you can do to the sound, especially if you have cut a lot of high frequencies.
